FIRST LADY ROSETTA H. GUNS

Rosetta H. Guns, aka “Rosebud” is the only child born to the late Samuel and Martha Harding of Richmond, Virginia. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early ageand was baptized by the late Dr. Benjamin W. Robertson, Sr. at Cedar Street Baptist Church. Lady Guns is married to Dr. Geoffrey V. Guns, Senior Pastor of Second Calvary Baptist Church where they have served since 1983.

They have two daughters and two granddaughters. Academically, Lady Guns earned Bachelor’s (BSW) and Master’s (MSW) degrees from The Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work at Norfolk State University. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Hampton Roads Chapter – Association of Black Social Workers, and a life member of the Norfolk State University Alumni Association. She is a Virginia Beach Election Official, and a volunteer at Sentara Leigh Hospital, serving on the Patient & Family Advisory Council and the Diversity & Inclusion Council. She is a member of the Interdenominational Ministers Wives and Ministers Widows Alliance of Tidewater.

 

She serves on the Board of Directors of the Eastside Community Development Corporation. She is a member of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Lady Guns retired in 2017 from Chesapeake Public Schools after a 30-year career as a School Social Worker. Among her resume of service is her work on the foreign mission field. She and Pastor Guns have led numerous mission trips to Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Israel, Greece and Turkey. She has conducted Women’s Ministry and Pastor’s Wives classes in Africa.

 

She has been instrumental in mobilizing women across the country to serve as teachers and mentors for women in Africa and in the United States. Lady Guns has worked with numerous ministries and outreach efforts in the church and community. She currently serves as Co-Elder of the Pastoral Care Ministry, Women’s Ministry Leader and Deaconess.

 

Lady Guns’ desire is that women will be empowered to live authentically for the
Lord Jesus Christ. Lady Guns loves the Lord, her family, and her church. She counts it a blessing to be retired and daily seeks the peace of God. Her mantra
is, “If it costs me my peace, it’s too expensive.”
